My Hotel Gym disaster

I have always avoided Gymnasiums as they seemed a place of torture and for those that indulge in sadomasochism, but having reached ‘Middle age’ the body is showing signs of wear and tear. As it happens I find myself occasionally in the business jet set and have been spending a number of nights away mainly in Sydney.

Rwanda: A model Africa?

One million Hutu & Tutsi’s killed in three months in one of the worst genocides this century. In happened in 1994 and what did the world do about it? Nothing! The infrastructure was largely destroyed along with the agriculture which bought famine and disease. In a population of six million between one and two million were killed.

Quintessentially Italian

Time to say “Arrivederci Roma”. From the might and strength of the Roman Empire at its heyday in 117 A.D (annō Dominī) she hasn’t come through untarnished. But still there are glorious reminders of the past with eager visitors flocking to the Colosseum everyday even though the gladiators are no longer contesting.

“I judge a man by what he eats.”

I was travelling from Heathrow to Oslo and connecting with a Thai flight to Bangkok. Not only did the weather turn sour but my Thai pre-flight check was vastly different to the other passengers. Now I know it’s not a logical routing but it had a lot to do with cost. So my day began early at my mid-November hotel in London. If fact so early that breakfast was not an option. Besides I’m a Qantas Club member so I can breakfast in the British Airways lounge at Heathrow. Which I did, helping myself to the British ‘fry up’ on offer with the mandatory HP sauce.
